The fall semester is quickly approaching and we all know what that means: FORMAL RECRUITMENT!!!! This time of year can be a little stressful, with classes, work, tailgates, and who am I kidding, Netflix. No matter how stressful the fall semester may get, here's a few tips to get you through recruitment...

1. BE YOURSELF

No matter how many times you hear this, always be yourself! When you're going through recruitment, being your most authentic self will help you find your forever home. If you put up a front and aren't honest, active members will not be able to get to know you well. So no matter what, just relax and be you!

2. Do your research

Going through formal recruitment can be overwhelming. You are meeting so many girls in such a short amount of time, so that means you don't have a lot of time to get to know them. So, before you go to your first party, look up some common questions that are asked during recruitment and practice some potential responses. The following are fairly common:

-What made you want to join a sorority?

-What's your major?

-Where are you from?

-What are you looking for in a chapter?

-Why did you choose Lamar?

3. Come with an open mind

This one can be difficult for some girls, because they truly have their heart set on a particular chapter. However, going through the process of recruitment isn't a process for you to join a particular organization, it is the process of joining a Greek organization. At the end of the day, we are all a big Greek family. So, you may start recruitment thinking that you want to join a particular sorority but by pref night you may want another one. So just be open minded throughout the entire process and don't shut anyone out, so remember treat others how you would like to be treated, it is a mutual selection process after all.

4. Ask questions

This is your time to find out if Greek life is for you. Don't be afraid to ask tough questions!! Ask how much dues are, what each chapter expects of their members, and ask about what they do for their philanthropy. Not only does this make you seem like you've got everything together, but it shows active members that your heart is in the right place. It shows that you want to get to know them, just like they want to get to know you.

5. HAVE FUN!

Yes, you will probably nervous, I'm not going to lie. Just like you're going to be nervous, so are the active members. Remember rule #1, be yourself and just have fun with it. After all, if you have to be someone else to join an organization, maybe its not the one for you.
